Why Gryphon?

This is really two questions: Why did we choose the gryphon as the symbol of our enterprise? And, why should you choose Gryphon Scientific for your next project?

Why did we choose the gryphon?

The gryphon is a chimera, a mythical creature with an eagle-like head and wings and the body of a lion. A favorite decorative motif in the ancient Near East, gryphons were fabled to guard the spirits of Pharaohs. Apart from the strong and regal characteristics of lions and eagles, we chose the gryphon for several reasons. As a chimera, the gryphon brings together two creatures in a single body and thus provides a graphic representation of our combined focus on the physical and life sciences as well as the social sciences and economics.

Now, why should you choose Gryphon for your next project?

  • We have extensive experience with excelling on critical projects. Since its beginnings, Gryphon’s research projects have driven policy changes at the highest levels of US government in security, preparedness and science policy. Abroad, we have advised governments in the developing world on how to cope with daunting public health challenges. Gryphon’s staff have helped research institutes transform in order to operate more safely and efficiently and better communicate with potential funders.
  • We generally exceed contract expectations. We have received many compliments for the thoroughness and creativity of our research and the quality and clarity of our writing. In many cases, we completed work under-budget and ahead of schedule, allowing us to complete additional studies at the behest of client at no additional cost.
  • Because we are a small business, all projects get the full attention of our technical and managerial staff.
  • The background of our technical staff in academic, industrial and public sector laboratories enables us to tackle extremely complex and technical projects, affording a depth of analysis impossible to otherwise deliver. Our sociologists leverage decades of experience in the quantitative and qualitative sociology enabling them to address the most daunting problems facing the government.
  • In addition to experience in the laboratory and in policy shops, Gryphon staff inform their studies with their hands-on experience from the field. Our staff have taught in disease surveillance facilities in the former Soviet Union, gathered data from prison populations, sampled from derelict biological and chemical munitions and tested samples retrieved from the anthrax attacks in 2001.
